The Echo State Gaussian Process

چکیده
Echo state networks (ESNs) constitute a novel approach to recurrent neural network (RNN) training, with an RNN (the reservoir) being generated randomly, and only a readout being trained using a simple, computationally efficient algorithm. ESNs have greatly facilitated the practical application of RNNs, outperforming classical approaches on a number of benchmark tasks. In this paper, we introduce a novel Bayesian approach towards ESNs, the echo state Gaussian process (ESGP). The ESGP combines the merits of ESNs and Gaussian processes to provide a more robust to noise and outliers alternative to conventional RC networks, while also offering a measure of confidence on the generated predictions (in the form of a predictive distribution). We exhibit the merits of our approach in a number of applications, considering both benchmark datasets and real-world applications, where we show that our method offers a significant enhancement in the dynamical data modeling capabilities of ESNs. Additionally, we also show that our method is orders of magnitude more computationally efficient compared to existing Gaussian process-based methods for dynamical data modeling, without compromises in the obtained predictive performance.

Echo spectroscopy of atomic dynamics in a Gaussian trap via phase imprints
We report on the collapse and revival of Ramsey fringe visibility when a spatially dependent phase is imprinted in the coherences of a trapped ensemble of two-level atoms. The phase is imprinted via the light shift from a Gaussian laser beam which couples the dynamics of internal and external degrees of freedom for the atoms in an echo spectroscopy sequence. The observed revivals are directly l...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of Cross-band Adaptation for Subband Acoustic Echo Cancellation
In this paper, we analyze the performance of cross-band adaptation in the short-time Fourier transform (STFT) domain for the application of acoustic echo cancellation. The band-to-band lters and the cross-band lters considered in each frequency-band are all estimated by adaptive lters, which are updated by the LMS algorithm. We derive explicit expressions for the transient and steady-state mean...
متن کاملRecognizing the Emotional State Changes in Human Utterance by a Learning Statistical Method based on Gaussian Mixture Model
Speech is one of the most opulent and instant methods to express emotional characteristics of human beings, which conveys the cognitive and semantic concepts among humans. In this study, a statistical-based method for emotional recognition of speech signals is proposed, and a learning approach is introduced, which is based on the statistical model to classify internal feelings of the utterance....
متن کاملComparison of Three-Dimensional Double-Echo Steady-State Sequence with Routine Two-Dimensional Sequence in the Depiction of Knee Cartilage
Introduction: There are some routine two-dimensional sequences, including short tau inversion recovery (STIR), T2-weighted fast-spin echo (T2W-FSE), and proton-density fast spin-echo for diagnosing osteoarthritis and lesions of the knee cartilage. However, these sequences have some disadvantages, such as long scan time, inadequate spatial resolution, and suboptimal tis...

In this paper we present a general formalism for the establishment of the family of selective partial update affine projection algorithms (SPU-APA).
